Happy New Year!

Well, fortunately we didn't really get cluttered up over Christmas, or at least only minimally so.

This is the first year we've decided not to buy Christmas presents for each other because we simply couldn't thing of anything we wanted or needed. And that's hardly a bad thing.

A trip to India and Nepal is possibly on the horizon for next fall, but only if we can manage it financially, and we have to consider the possibility of spending a significant amount of money to repair our leaking roof.

So, now is not the time to let money dribble through our fingers buying unnecessary stuff.

In fact, this January is the time I've decided to start decluttering in earnest again.

This is the picture of the next 25 things: excess Christmas ornaments, a secondary phone we will never use because we already have three of them, and a whole assortment of unused games and software for the computer.

3255 things gone total since I started this blog. Time to start the New Year with some more things gone.

Wouldn't Want to Buy My Junk Back (Thank Goodness)

After I dropped off a load of my clutter at the Goodwill the other day, I took a quick look around the store. I wasn't shopping; I was looking for my old junk.
I was wondering if I'd feel any pangs when I saw it on the store shelves. Well, I did NOT.

What I thought as I spotted a knick-knack of mine here and there was: $2.99? I wouldn't want to buy that back for that! Forty-nine cents? Nope, they can keep it forever for all I care!
I'm rather relieved.

1731 things junked.

Approaching One Thousand Things Decluttered

So these things pictured are now banished from my home, and that brings my recent total to Nine Hundred and Seventy-Five things de-cluttered from my home (well, from the basement and garage anyway).

I shared my project's goal with my husband who I think is regarding my blog documentation with some amusement. He is skeptical that I'll actually reach ten thousand items. Not because he doesn't think I'm not doing a good job getting rid of things--he just figured I can't possibly have that much stuff.

But I bet there is.

Spider Girl Starts a New Decluttering Blog

This is a sort of sister blog to my first blog, Spider in the Bathtub, which is daily reading for family and friends, in which I prattle on about any number of things as the fancy takes me.

But I'm not linking it, at least not yet, because I'm not sure that I want to share my junking out process with people who actually know me.

That's what I want to write about in this blog: letting go of all the clutter in my house and in my life. I may not be a text-book pack-rat but I've felt for a while that there is a lot of stuff that I'd like to let go of: paper, clothes, memorabilia, stuff that I'm not even sure why I've kept. And recently I've met some inspiring people and read some inspiring books that have made me decide to document the process. Why not?
